Universal Expands Wizarding World of Harry Potter!

It has just been announced by Universal Orlando, that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is expanding! There has been speculation the last few months because of ongoing construction in the area where the old Jaws Ride was, but no one could have guessed such a monumental undertaking!

Diagon Alley, will not be in Islands of Adventure, but will be situated in Universal Studios and park goers will be able to journey between the two parks from King’s Cross station in London to Hogsmeade, aboard the Hogwarts Express with the Park-to-Park ticket. The new expansion is scheduled to open in 2014 and is being touted as the “World’s First Centrally Themed, Multi-Park Experience!” The creative teams of Universal Orlando and Warner Bros have collaborated to the extreme, to bring this amazing undertaking to fruition.

“Our vision is to create two amazing theme park experiences that combine into ONE complete magical journey,” said Alice Norsworthy, executive vice president, marketing and sales for Universal Orlando Resort.

Diagon Alley will be similar to Hogsmeade in the original Wizarding World. The centerpiece will be a ride based on Gringotts Wizarding Bank from the film. Surrounding the ride will be a shopping area in London behind the Leaky Cauldron pub, which can’t be seen by Muggles. The set is based on scenes from the movie when Harry Potter first learns he is a wizard and Hagrid takes him to Gringotts to withdraw money from his vault. Afterwards they shop for school supplies (like which owl to have) and then go to the famous Ollivander’s Wand Shop to pick a wand.

“I’m so pleased that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has proved so popular to date, and I’m sure that the attention to detail in creating the new Diagon Alley area will make this an even better experience,” said J.K. Rowling.
